One of the four main themes of Leiden-Delft-Erasmus is Digital Society. The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Center for BOLD Cities is an example of this. BOLD stands for Big, Open and Linked Data. The center conducts research into digitization and data use in the city. The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus minor Smart and SHARED Cities is organized by this centre. Students learn about the opportunities and consequences of new technology in the urban environment, from smart trash cans to drones. Digital Society also includes research into and with Artificial Intelligence, one of the main topics of research and education of the three collaborating universities. Cyber Security is also an example of this LDE theme.
