The need for creativity and innovation in solving problems has never been more immediate. In recent times, Hackathons have provided a creative platform upon which to do so. This May, the TU Delft Minecraft Edu Hack will see real-life problems pitched to teams of students to creatively solve in a predetermined timeframe and demonstrate via the Virtual Minecraft Campus.
LDE CEL is proud to announce the first Hackathon of its kind using Minecraft, where student teams will engage in a creative battle with each other, to solve a real-life challenge presented by educational professionals from multidisciplinary fields across TU Delft, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Microsoft. The 24-hour challenge will take place on the 27th and 28th of May.
The challenges will range from gamifying a legal studies module to designing a corona proof campus. We are looking for students who do not shy away from a challenge and are able to think creatively to design solutions to the challenge posed using the TU Delft Virtual Campus as their sandbox. Innovative solutions can win a 750 euro prize pot, Microsoft vouchers worth 200 euros and every participant will have access to a Thuisbezorgt budget to satisfy your cravings during the innovation process.
Challenge Day
On the afternoon of May 27th, five Challenge Owners will pitch their Problem to the students. The students will choose which Problem they wish to solve and will collaborate in the engaging workspace Gathertown while developing their solution in the Virtual Campus. During this process, mentors and coordinators will drop in to answer any questions and provide support. A Thuisbezorgt budget will satisfy your hunger while you innovate and produce before pitching your Solution to a panel of experts on the afternoon of May 28th who will consider such items as relevance, creativity and transferability when electing a winner.
The winning team will walk away with 750 euros and the second-placed team will be given Microsoft vouchers to the tune of 200 euros. Think you've got what it takes? Sign up below!

Minecraft as a platform to solve problems
Minecraft has been critically acclaimed, winning several awards and being cited as one of the greatest video games of all time. In Minecraft, players explore a blocky, procedurally-generated 3D world with virtually infinite terrain, and may discover and extract raw materials, craft tools and items, and build structures or earthworks. Players can modify the game to create new gameplay mechanics, items, and assets.
LDE CEL will provide all the participating students with a temporary Minecraft licence for the event, all data will be handled in accordance with the GDPR regulations.
