New Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability Interdisciplinary Thesis Labs 24/25
Become a leader in sustainability. Work on your individual master thesis based on a real-world challenge from an external organization. Meet professionals and academic experts, follow workshops, lectures and join excursions. At the same time learn, share and collaborate with other motivated students and contribute to a common, interdisciplinary result with real impact.
This thesis lab is open to everyone! It is a highly valuable extracurricular programme that can support you in your master's thesis process. Every Thesis Lab has one or more case holders from practice. This year we organize 6 Thesis Labs:
- A Just Climate Transition within and beyond The Hague, with case holder Municipality of The Hague
- Green skies, with case holders Aethos, Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR), and Collins Aerospace
- Groene zorg (NL), with case holder Medical Delta and 11 health care organizations
- Sustainable Energy in Horticulture, with case holder Glastuinbouw Nederland and other organizations in the horticulture sector (grower, bank, energy business or governmental organization)
- The (really) green heart; year 2100, with case holder LDE initiative Climate and Biodiversity
- Sustainable Horticulture in Morocco (small version), together with a collaboration of Moroccan universities, Credit Agricole Maroc, the Moroccan research institute INRA, Leiden-Delft-Erasmus and multiple Dutch multinationals

The challenge of this Lab is: “How can design, technological innovation, new business models and legislation help the aerospace industry reduce its impact on the environment?”

De uitdaging van dit Lab is: “Wat is ervoor nodig om groene oplossingen te implementeren en te bestendigen in de Nederlandse gezondheidszorg?”
The Future of Energy in the Horticulture Sector
Are you an LDE master thesis student or student at a hbo in Zuid-Holland? Do you want to contribute to sustainability in the horticulture sector? Join LDE Centre for Sustainability, Glastuinbouw Nederland and other organizations in the horticulture sector (grower, bank, energy business or governmental organization) in this Thesis Lab and become a leader in sustainability. The challenge of this Lab is: “How does a climate neutral energy provision of the horticulture sector look like in 2040? What is the relation with the organizational embedding and societal opinion?”

Join LDE Centre for Sustainability and LDE initiative Climate and Biodiversity in this Thesis Lab and become a leader in sustainability. The challenge of this Lab is: “How can the Green Heart become an ecological and economically prosperous biodiversity hotspot in the Randstad by the year 2100, while contributing to major societal challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, just transition, water management and soil quality?”
Sustainable Horticulture in Morocco (small version)
Are you an LDE master thesis student or student at a hbo in Zuid-Holland? Do you want to contribute to the development of a sustainable horticulture sector in Morocco? Join LDE Centre for Sustainability and a collaboration of Moroccan universities, Credit Agricole Maroc, the Moroccan research institute INRA, Leiden-Delft-Erasmus and multiple Dutch multinationals in this Thesis Lab and become a leader in sustainability. The challenge of this Lab is: “What are the possibilities and challenges in Morocco for a successful integration between upgrading horticulture while increasing the sustainability of its sector?”

Sustainability Interdisciplinary Thesis Labs
In de Thesis Labs georganiseerd door het Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability werken teams van studenten aan een duurzaamheidsuitdaging, gesteld door een externe organisatie; een bedrijf of overheidsorganisatie. Studenten nemen deel aan een speciaal programma (zes maanden) en ontmoeten professionals en academische experts, volgen workshops, lezingen en doen mee aan excursies. Ze leren van andere studenten, stellen hun ideeën ter discussie en wisselen methodologieën uit. En ze schrijven hun masterscriptie, terwijl ze een interdisciplinair resultaat creëren voor de uitdaging waar studenten allemaal samen aan werken. Dit interdisciplinaire programma omvat alle relevante disciplines, zoals: natuurwetenschappen, sociale wetenschappen, techniek, design, recht, gezondheid, economie, management, geesteswetenschappen en filosofie.
Scriptiewerkplaats Den Haag Zuidwest
De scriptiewerkplaats Den Haag Zuidwest wordt georganiseerd door het Leiden-Delft-Erasmus centre Governance of Migration and Diversity. Het betreft een onderwijsplatform waar diverse masterstudenten van Universiteit Leiden, TU Delft en Erasmus Rotterdam vanuit verschillende disciplines een scriptieonderzoek doen. Zij doen dit naar aanleiding van de geformuleerde praktijkgerichte uitdagingen door verschillende stakeholders in Den Haag Zuidwest, zoals de gemeente Den Haag, lokale buurtprofessionals en bewoners.
