Tips for Online Education

  1. Save yourself time and work!
Are there Web lectures from previous years or other sources (YouTube, Coursera FutureLearn) available? If so, use them!
  2. Preparation is key.
This is important for both live sessions and recorded web lectures.
  3. For live sessions: Test your setup as if it is the real session.
Ask a colleague or student to help with a dry run. Make sure you go through all the steps of your presentation as if it is the live session. Check out the technical connections (video, audio, screen sharing, input) and the functionalities (user permissions, quizzes, answering questions, etc.).
  4. Share your expectations.
Share with your students your expectations of the context, the programme and their role.
  5. Make sure you have a backup.
Be in touch with your faculty/IT contact in advance. He/she can help resolve technical issues of participants, should they arise.
